When Argentina won the World Cup in 1978 most fans watched what seemed to be a wonderful footballing story. Few knew that the trophy was lifted against a background of violence and repression. Yet, as Jonathan Wilson and Tony Pastor will discuss, while the scene in Buenos Aires of ticker tape cascading down onto the joyous Argentinian team remains one of the most evocative in footballing history, a dark story has emerged of torture, murder and sports-washing, as the military junta sought to hide their crimes beneath the world's greatest footballing stage.
