Festival talks by Suzannah Lipscomb

41. HOW TO BE A HISTORIAN MASTERCLASS

Suzannah Lipscomb and Sam Willis are offering a very special masterclass: a morning spent with them debating, discussing, and learning about how to go about being an historian. They’ll range widely – from the general to the specific, thinking about what it means to be different types of historian – of naval history, of social history, of different centuries – and what the challenges and joys are of each. With tips about how to research as well as some of the latest academic thinking, this is a rare chance to spend time with some of the most dynamic and exciting young historians in the country.

37. SHAKESPEARE’S WORLD

‘He was not of an age, but for all time’ (BenJonson). Shakespeare’s rare talent makes it easy to think of him as a man out of time. But he was shaped by the worldview of Elizabeth I’s reign. We are thrilled to welcome back the superb Suzannah Lipscomb who, in examining his world, will tell us much, in turn, about Shakespeare himself.
