4. CAPTAIN OATES: SOLDIER AND EXPLORER

Generously supported by

Captain Oates lived life in obscurity but died a national hero, immortalised by his last words, ‘I am just going outside and may be some time’. Patrick Cordingley will tell the story of his life, which culminated in Scott’s tragic 1911-1913 Antarctic Expedition. Struggling for survival after reaching the South Pole, Oates attempted to save his comrades by walking into a blizzard to meet his death.
