RIVER KINGS: A NEW HISTORY OF THE VIKINGS FROM SCANDINAVIA TO THE SILK ROADS

Following a small ‘Carnelian’ bead found in a Viking grave in Derbyshire to its eighth century origins thousands of miles to the east in Gujarat, this will be an astonishing talk replete with witches, human sacrifice, Greek fire and funeral orgies. Bioarchaeologist Cat Jarman will show how, using cutting-edge forensic techniques, she has uncovered epic stories of the Viking age leading her to a major reassessment of the fierce, often-mythologised voyagers of the north, and of the global medieval world as we know it.
