Smith & Williamson Tent, Thu 27th June 15:30 - 16:30 (60 mins)

Tim Leighton will examine the fluctuating attitudes of the British armed forces to alcohol and other drug use by serving personnel and veterans from WWI to the present day, in both war and peace. The positive and negative effects on operational capability and morale will be examined together with the services’ historical and contemporary response to the psychological casualties of substance abuse.

Chalke Valley History Festival is delighted to support WALKING WITH THE WOUNDED, a charity which supports those who have served in the Armed Forces and their families, empowering them to regain their independence, thrive and contribute in our communities. https://walkingwiththewounded.org.uk
